To me, Guru Harrai Ji embodies a true pacifist approach to life; being a master herbalist, such that he maintained a prestigious medical store, laying great emphasis on free dispensary to those in need. Though a master hunter, Guru Ji refused to kill but rather established a zoo to set the captured animals free whilst taking care of them.
This pacifistic approach is something I believe must be understood and implemented before picking up the sword. Understand the value of life, you have no enemies, nobody does. Once one has understood and implemented this way into their lives, only then can they truly wield the sword responsibly. In saying this, GuruJi continued to maintain Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s army - continually ready to defend the Sikh Dharam.
