The basis of the art is to display the birRass (A warrior spirit) That Guru Gobind Singh embodied in his writings within the Dasam Granth's Bachittar Natak. The Guru writes ਜਬੈ ਬਾਣ ਲਾਗਿਯੋ ॥ ਤਬੈ ਰੋਸ ਜਾਗਿਯੋ ॥ , referring to the 'Rass' that enflamed within him as he was nearly wounded by an arrow. The chestplate in question (aka. The Charaina) has been depicted here, as with the artifact, with a hole on the bottom right side.
Being capable as a warrior within is essential; the Way of all things defines this trait as being tyar bar tyar, ready and dormant. In this time, remain as Sant; Saintly and reserved. This defines the Sant Sipahi mindset, one that every Sikh of the Guru should strive to achieve during their lifetimes.
